Booster Club Meeting Update

posted Sep 16, 2013, 10:20 PM by DeLay Band

We are moving this weeks booster club meeting back to the already scheduled meeting on Thursday, October 10th, at 6:00 pm.  Kimberly Burkett has done so much to make our booster club official and has a few more hoops to jump through so we can be official on the next meeting in October.

Our first unofficial meeting was extremely productive.  We set some of the board member positions and started our paperwork for 501C-3 status.  We would love volunteers for 2 more board member positions to make a fair voting system, maybe one or two Vice President positions that split duties.

The currently elected board:
President: Roberta Haythorn
Treasurer: Kimberly Burkett
Secretary: Norma Arias

We invite all parents to the meeting!  Be involved!  Help make decisions!  Help us make the DeLay Band the most nurturing program your students can be a part of!

Thank you for letting us work with your amazing children!

David DeSoto and Joe Janes

January Announcements

posted Jan 10, 2013, 4:31 PM by DeLay Band

Dear Band Parents,

We’re almost halfway through the year!  Thank you for showing such outstanding support at our Holiday Concert.  It was amazing to have around 300 people in attendance.  We look forward to seeing you at many great events this next semester, starting with a Band Parent Meeting January 22.  Please familiarize yourself with the content on this page.  We have links to important itineraries in the January calendar section.

7th and 8th grade students come together once a week for a full band rehearsal.  This is a vital part of our curriculum, teaching the students to multitask and pay attention to their own parts while listening to all other instrument sounds, volumes, and rhythms.  All rehearsals will be on Tuesdays from 5:15-6:30pm to accommodate for tutorials and athletics.  These are the only exceptions to the Tuesday routine:

February 20th (Moved to Wednesday due to athletics on Tuesday)

April 2nd    (Canceled due to STAAR, the state accountability test)

April 23rd (Canceled due to STAAR)

7th and 8th grade students have required section-specific tutorials.  Directors are able to teach music more efficiently with individual instrument groups.  Sectionals occur from 7:00am-8:00am, 4:10pm-5:15pm, and some students schedule alternative times at 5:15pm-6:00pm.  These are the days your student’s instrument section is signed up to learn:

Monday: Percussion

                Tuesday: Bass Clarinet

                Wednesday: Flute, Trumpet

                Thursday: Clarinet, Trombone/Euphonium/Tuba

                Friday: Saxophone

District Audition Results!

posted Oct 14, 2012, 3:39 PM by DeLay Band   [ updated Oct 14, 2012, 4:07 PM ]

This weekend the band had an All-District competition.  Each school LISD sends its most prepared students to audition and a few instrument groups have 2 phases to make the judging process more accurate.

Congratulations to Carlos Galvan on euphonium that made 6th chair of the 50 best players in the district.
Congratulations to Brad Brooks that made 11th chair out of 55 students made the second phase.
We had two other fantastic students make it to the second phase.  I'd like your help congratulating Grace Mappes on alto saxophone and Antonio Robledo on flute.

Other students that have earned and honorable mention for their work in this process include Yaritzza Avila, Francisco Diaz, Priscilla Prado, Kaleigh Hardy, Luis Moreno, Marco Nava, Ramon Castendeda, and Raunel Garcia.

We will have a Region contest in two weeks.  Wish us luck!
